DUBUQUE, Iowa (KCRG-TV9)– Oftentimes with spring break approaching, or kids too young for preschool, moms and dads look for activities for their kids throughout the day.The City of Dubuque has been using classes and activities to provide children and moms and dads alternatives for entertainment.Once a week, you will find Susan Stoppelmoor, understood in the classroom as”Miss Susan,” leading a small group of kids at Allison-Henderson Park.Most of them are not registered in day care, so
they concern the class in the middle of the park to learn. “Listening skills, and after that on top
of that working on fine motor and gross motor skills,”stated Stoppelmoor, talking about the focus of the activities.Some parents state they have been taking
advantage of the chances any opportunity they get.” It’s a fun place to come and do crafts where we do not need to clean up the mess at home and make enjoyable things the home of do something various,”Jessica Kennedy stated, who has been coming to these classes with her children for more than a year. This week, they are the”Music Makers. “With every instrument used or made
, every stamp, and every bell connected
, households explore different activities and enjoy the company of each other.” All the while understanding that the parents don’t need to do that in the house,”Stoppelmoor stated.”They can leave the mess here and they can simply come and enjoy an hour or two with their children. “”I get to talk with the mothers, too, “Kennedy said. “And watch the kids engage with other kids. It’s not something we typically get to see our kids having fun with other kids, so that’s fun to see how they connect with other people.”Stoppelmoor, who has been teaching with the City of Dubuque Leisure Services department for ten years, stated the city saw
a need to supply kids with learning opportunities throughout the week. “They have no idea where to take their youths, their two-year-olds,”Stoppelmoor stated.”They’re very limited.
